5 Steps to Ending Painful, Achy & Stiff Joints

Is the pain of arthritis draining you (or someone you know) of the energy and zest needed for a rich, joyous life? This month, our focus at Vaughan Chiropractic is arthritis – let’s look at what it is and 5 simple strategies for improving your body’s ability to deal with it better, and even heal itself!

Every day, the joints in your body help to carry your weight and move you around, and this subjects them to tremendous stress and shock. Enter cartilage: your body’s natural shock absorber. This wondrous tissue – which scientists have not been able to create synthetically – cushions and protects your joints from the wear-and-tear of life. As you age, though, your cartilage can deteriorate – particularly if you have suffered joint injuries, are overweight, or eat an unhealthy diet. The bad news is that this deterioration can lead to degenerative arthritis, commonly referred to as osteoarthritis. The good news is that recent research has found that it may be possible to slow or stop the deterioration, and even regenerate cartilage. How can you help?

  1. Comfort food for the joints: glucosamine sulfate, supplemental vitamins and minerals, many of which are available in the most healthy of your natural food sources and select botanical and herbal extracts can help to nourish joints.
  2. Move it or lose it: moving the joints of your body helps regulate nerve flow, enhances bone remodeling, strengthens muscles, tendons and ligaments, and improves the natural lubrication of the joint thereby decreasing risk of joint injury.
  3. A weighty subject: the more weight you carry, the greater the stress on your weight bearing joints, so strive to maintain a healthy weight and body fat percentage.  Remember, your metabolism is not only genetically regulated.  Metabolism is increased with regular exercise, eating lighter & more frequent meals and enhanced nerve flow.
  4. Nerves don’t breakdown: improving your nerve flow is easy for people of all ages. Living with optimal spinal health is your best chance for improved nerve flow to support all the joints of your body.
